Here is everything you need to know about Microsoft Surface Duo before you buy

Microsoft Surface Duo is the newest addition to there Microsoft collection of smartphones. Here is what you should know about this new high end android based mobile phone.

Previously we talked about Xiaomi Redmi 9, and now we are back with Microsoft Surface Duo.

Microsoft Surface Duo Part 1

#run    #Neo

First, the Neo runs a full – blown version of Windows specifically designed for dual – screen devices known as Windows 10X.

The Duo is the smaller sibling of Microsoft’s other new dual – screen device, the Neo, a Windows 10 device that offers two 9 screens that fold out into a 13 display.

Microsoft recently announced that Windows 10X, a new version of the vanilla Windows 10 OS made for dual – screen foldable devices, will first arrive on single – screen laptops.

That sets it apart from the larger Surface Neo, which will run Windows 10X – a forked version optimized for dual – screen activity.

The Surface Neo is something between a tablet and a laptop, outfitted with a dual – screen layout optimized for Windows 10X, a new flavor of Windows 10 written to take advantage of two screen devices.

#Holiday    #launch    #release

At its October 2019 Surface event in New York City, Microsoft mentioned that the Surface Duo will be released in time for holiday 2020.

Microsoft has announced that the Surface Duo will arrive in Holiday 2020 – which for means we should expect a release around November or December 2020.

The Microsoft Surface Duo was first expected to launch in the Holiday season, but it’s now expected to ship out as early as June 2020.

Android Authority has learned that the Surface Duo release date timeframe is the same as previously announced, with a launch still scheduled for sometime in 2020.

When Microsoft announced the Surface Duo in October of last year, the company said the device would be coming holiday 2020, and its official page for the Surface Duo still makes this claim.

#announced    #year    #event    #release    #Wednesday

The Surface Duo, which was announced a full year before it was planned to release to market, was recently spotted in the wild.

This release window was announced when Microsoft officially unveiled the Duo at a Surface event in October 2019, making the rare move of revealing a new smartphone over a year before sale to the general public.

It won’t arrive for another year, but the unexpected Surface Duo preview stood out at Microsoft’s annual fall hardware rollout event Wednesday with the launch of several new Surface PCs, tablets and accessories slated for release in the coming weeks.

In time for the holiday season, Microsoft announced some bells, whistles and hardware to several of their more popular offerings on Wednesday.

#Snapdragon    #Qualcomm    #G    #processor

The Surface Duo prototype featured a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, but we believe it will use the newer Snapdragon 865 in the final version.

The Surface Duo has two screens, like its larger sibling, but it’s powered by a Qualcomm processor, the Snapdragon 855, and it’s running on Android.

Since the Snapdragon 865 processor requires extra space for its X55 5 G modem, Surface Duo would have been distorted footprint – wise.

According to Windows Central’s tipster, the choice of Snapdragon 855 over 865 stems from Qualcomm making the inclusion of a 5 G modem in 865 devices.

I ‘m sure many of you are wondering why Microsoft isn’t using the latest Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm inside the Surface Duo, and the reason seems to be rooted in the fact that Qualcomm requires all smartphone makers to include a separate 5 G chip with the Snapdragon 865.

#Neo    #laptops

Alongside new iterations of its laptops and tablets, the tech giant unveiled two new foldable devices – the Surface Neo and the Surface Duo.

But it was still a bit surprising to see Microsoft take the stage last October and announce two folding, dual – screen devices in the Surface Neo and Surface Duo.

The Surface Duo, which at first glance looks like a Mini Me of the Surface Neo, is in many ways a completely different product.

With the Neo tablet now mothballed, it will be up to the Surface Duo to see if it can cause a stir in Microsoft’s overall Surface hardware plans.

Both the Surface Duo and Surface Neo unfortunately won’t be available until the holiday season of 2020, a year’s wait for two devices that have whet the appetite amongst those smitten with the promise of doubling their workspace on the go [ raises hand ].

#Samsung    #Galaxy    #bezels

There are, however, thick bezels around the top of the device, so don’t expect this to be like the bezel – less Samsung Galaxy phones.

With the exception of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and its predecessors, Android has had a distinct lack of stylus / pen – based devices.

Samsung ( OTC : SSNLF ), Huawei, and other phone makers tried to solve the bezel issue by launching devices with single foldable screens with unbroken displays.

Tech companies are scrambling to get foldable devices right, and Samsung’s Galaxy Fold mishaps show that it’s going to be a bumpy road.

Though not considered a foldable or a smartphone per se, the most direct competition for a device like the Surface Duo will likely include the Galaxy Fold, the Motorola Razr foldable, and Huawei Mate X.

#Fold    #costs    #price    #Samsung

But those phones are still prohibitively expensive : Samsung’s Galaxy Fold costs about $ 2,000, and Huawei’s Mate X costs $ 2,600.

Samsung sells the similarly dual – screen Galaxy Fold for an eye – watering PS1,900, and with a bigger screen, the Surface Duo may cost even more than that.

The Surface Duo doesn’t rely on an actual folding screen, so we don’t anticipate the stratospheric pricing of $ 2,000 and beyond that we saw with the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei’s Mate X.

While reports of the newly – updated Samsung Fold from USA have been good on their second release, the cost of the phone and the risks of its plastic screen as opposed to the traditional toughened glass screen ( Gorilla Glass ) have kept sales modest.

#Product    #Panos    #officer    #Panay

Panos Panay, chief product officer for Microsoft’s device portfolio, scoffed at referring to the Surface Duo as a phone, insisting it is much more.

Earlier this month Microsoft’s Chief Product Officer of Windows and Devices, Panos Panay, penned a blog post about launching Windows 10X on single – screen devices.

At last October’s event, Microsoft Chief Product Officer Panos Panay demonstrated how the device can do everything you ‘d expect from a modern smartphone and tablet.

Aside from Panos Panay, chief product officer of Microsoft’s Devices group, saying at a 2019 event in Berlin that the Duo would have a good camera, Microsoft hasn’t mentioned anything specific about it.

According to chief product officer Panos Panay, the developers opted for Google’s mobile device operating system to appeal to the general market.

#hinge

The Duo is a dual screen mobile device, meaning it will have side by side displays with a hardware hinge between screens.

The Surface Duo has two 5.6-inch screens, but unlike other foldables, its displays are made of Gorilla Glass – just split by a very visible hinge.

He cites examples of running Outlook on the Surface Duo, with one side of the device showing your inbox and the other display a Compose screen.

The Surface Duo is a dual – screened, Android – powered communication device that is part mobile phone, part tablet, and part camera.

Unlike the still very – much – in – beta, dual screen phones from the likes of Samsung, the Surface Duo merges two 5.6-inch screens with a visible, but handsomely executed with a hardware hinge.

#GB    #storage    #RAM    #specs

According to my sources, Surface Duo will ship this year with a Snapdragon 855, 6 GB RAM, and 64 GB or 256 GB storage options.

The rest of the specs also resemble a 2019 Android flagship with 6 GB of RAM and either 64 or 256 GB of storage.

Beyond the camera, the phone will pack a Snapdragon 855 processor, 6 GB of RAM, and storage options of either 64 GB or 256 GB.

Other specs have since leaked such as 6 GB of memory and dual 64/256 GB storage sizes, but these remain officially unconfirmed.

Currys has the Surface Book 2 in silver with an Intel Core i7, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB storage for PS1,499.

Microsoft themselves are selling the Surface Pro 7 in Platinum with an Intel Core i3, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB storage for PS797.

#market    #smartphone

Microsoft ( NASDAQ : MSFT ) recently unveiled its first Android phone, the Surface Duo, in a surprising return to the smartphone market.

Let’s see why Microsoft launched the Duo, and why this so – called Surface Phone could struggle to gain ground in the crowded smartphone market.

Microsoft announced its return to the smartphone market with the Surface Duo ( although they officially said it’s not a smartphone, it’s a Surface ).

Though Microsoft has unsuccessfully attempted to enter the smartphone market for years, its Surface Duo may be a step in the right direction.

The Duo, however, is noted for being able to make phone calls, meaning Microsoft is making its way back into the smartphone arena after the demise of Windows Phone around four years ago.

#failed

As a long – term user of a Windows Phone Operating System ( Windows Phone OS ), I have been closely monitoring the press for news of a new Microsoft phone.

Windows Phone failed due to the fierce competition in the app marketplace and the lack of space for a third contender.

After the death of Windows 10 Mobile and the Windows Phone platform, the odds of Microsoft ever shipping another mobile device that wasn’t a tablet with LTE were scant.

Microsoft failed to make a success of its own mobile operating system, and its purchase of Nokia in 2013 was one of the biggest corporate fails in history, causing Microsoft to write off $ 7.6 billion.

It was a risky move to show device so soon, and I can only assume Microsoft is trying to get early feedback from developers and critics to ensure they minimize the risk of another Windows Phone fiasco.

#products    #strategy

The Surface Neo and the Surface Duo are part of a whole line of products, each one filling some sort of gap in productivity — each one pushing Microsoft software in their own unique way.

Microsoft’s devices revenue, which mainly came from Surface products, rose 19 % to $ 6.1 billion last year and accounted for 5 % of its top line.

With Microsoft amping up its development efforts for the device, a working version of the Surface Duo was recently spotted in the wild in the hands of a Microsoft employee.

Now, we noticed that Microsoft is hiring in a big way for its Surface Duo to ramp up the development and work on post – launch strategy as the device gains an important role in the company’s hardware strategy.

#battery    #power    #holding

Holding the Surface Duo is like holding a shell of the past crammed with a not – fully – realized future.

The story’s sources say that battery will be able to power the Surface Duo throughout the day, but that’s … ambitious.

I ‘m also told that Surface Duo will ship with a 3460mAh battery, which contacts have said is able to get Surface Duo through the day, but don’t expect an endurance champ.

Considering the Surface Duo is powering two displays simultaneously, it remains to be seen just how long it can last with standard use.

And we have no word yet on an IP rating to indicate whether the Surface Duo can handle getting a little wet.

It’s also reported to have a sizeable 3,640mAh battery, though it will need to be as it has to power two displays.

#developers    #emulator    #Xamarin    #SDK    #build

Part of the SDK is a Surface Duo emulator, designed to work with both Google’s Android Studio and for Xamarin code being developed in Visual Studio.

Xamarin code for the emulator needs to be built to run on Android 10.0 API 29, as the emulator name isn’t correctly set in the first release.

Microsoft has updated the emulator image for Surface Duo and now is at build 2020.429.2, according to a May 7 blog post.

We saw most of this in action with an emulator and the Surface Duo SDK, released by Microsoft in February 2020.

Last month, Microsoft released an SDK for the Surface Duo, allowing developers to wrap their heads around the dual – screen functionality and hopefully build support for it into their apps.

#specifications    #Central

The latest leaks were published by Windows Central which finally sheds some light regarding the key specifications of the Surface Duo.

But the folks at Windows Central report that they ‘ve obtained a list of the hardware specifications for the Surface Duo.

Just ahead of the weekend Windows Central published new details and what it claimed to be the final specs of the upcoming Surface Duo.

Microsoft had also confirmed the specifications of the Surface Duo by only so much, but the report claims to give an insight of the unknown innards of the upcoming foldable device.

What we also know is that there looks to be no world – facing camera on the Surface Duo — at least from videos of the prototypes recently seen in public.

#produce    #stuck

Microsoft likely thought that a Duo with a single foldable screen would be too costly to produce, so it stuck with the older dual – screen design.

After pointing out durability issues when it comes to current flexible display technology, Microsoft opted to use a dual – screen configuration as an alternative.

Microsoft’s less ambitious approach, to make a dual screen phone that has a gap between the two screens is both an advantage and disadvantage.

Microsoft isn’t shelling out for one of those expensive, high – tech flexible OLED displays, but it does have twice as many displays as normal, and they are in a weird aspect ratio to boot.

#notifications    #Peek    #open

For instance, you’ll be able to peek at your calls and notifications when pulling open the top screen on the device.

In it, you can more clearly see how the device will work with notifications, which appear on the right side of the display so you can deal with them without having to completely open the device.

Unlike Galaxy Fold, Surface Duo doesn’t have a secondary outside display and Peek feature might help you stay up – to – date with notifications.

As previously confirmed, there will be no exterior display, which still begs the question as to how it will handle notifications or alerts.

According to a leak, Surface Duo could come with an interesting feature known as Peek , which will allow users to quickly check and interact with your notifications without needing to fully open the dual – screen phone.

#apps    #Android

This allows you to run the full gamut of Windows apps, including Win32, Microsoft Store, Progressive Web Apps, and Universal Windows Apps.

All of Microsoft’s first – party apps that are preinstalled on Surface Duo will support spanning across both displays and have drag and drop capabilities between two different apps where applicable.

Google Play Store installed, but it also comes with a suite of Microsoft’s cloud – based Android apps, including Office, Outlook, and OneDrive.

In the past, Microsoft were unable to convince developers to make apps for their OS that were made in great numbers for Android and Apple’s IOS.

Instead, it focused on developing apps that worked on iOS and Android on the one hand and its undeniably successful Surface lineup of Windows PCs on the other.

#pen    #feel    #enter    #keyboard

The builders have additionally labored on the enter lag to make the entire expertise really feel more natural and when utilizing the Surface Pen for portray, it might really feel like you might be gliding the pen throughout two totally different screens. 16

As per the report, the Android enter stack has been tempered with so it could possibly allow contact enter from the finger and the pen on the similar time and additionally work seamlessly throughout each screens. 16

Dragging stuff from one of many screens to the opposite will really feel pure and Surface – specific gestures akin to double faucet with the pen to take a screenshot will even be enabled. 16

Wait, there’s more : The screen real estate that goes unused above or below the diminutive keyboard can either be turned into a touch trackpad or a Wunderbar, a swath of screen dedicated to emoji and video windows and application shortcuts. 9

#hinge    #seam    #page

Unfolded, they form an 8.3-inch display ( separated, of course, by the hinge ) that can either display information independently on each screen or go full screen across the two of them.

Sure, one big foldable screen means more real estate than two independent screens connected by a thin hinge, but other than watching a movie or playing a game, is there any use case where the dual – screen option is significantly worse?

The same videos show the seam to be relatively smooth, with users able to swipe across the hinge in a single action.

Using this technique can help you work around the gap in the middle of the display where the two screens fold, as well as plan for how you might work with the Duo’s planned on – screen keyboard.

#camera    #facing    #video    #rear    #flash

There’s no rear camera — users fold the device backward and use the front – facing camera for forward – facing shots.

The video shows a new white circle next to that camera, so now it seems like you’ll get a rear ( and front ) flash.

It will feature a single 11MP camera sensor above the right display that will be used for both front and rear – facing photos and videos.

The video appears to show one new hardware addition that wasn’t present in the initial announcement in October 2019 : an LED flash next to the camera.

The way it’s currently designed, taking a picture would require the person using it to open the Duo, unlock the Duo, and flip its front – facing camera to the back of the device.

#apps    #emails

You’ll be able to stack apps side by side, drag apps from one screen to the next, and span them across the screen and the hinge.

You should be able to use one app on one screen, and another app on the second display and some apps could be expanded to spread across both displays.

If an app is designed to run at full screen it can use either a single screen or, if designed to scale, both.

If you want to test an application on dual screens, grab the white bar at the bottom of the screen and drag it to the middle of the emulator to open the app across both screens.

A demo of the device showed a user clicking on an email attachment on one screen, and the application for that attachment launching on the other screen.

#pocket    #calls    #camera    #fits

For instance, you can use it to play with apps and make calls, and it can even fit in your pocket.

Not only can it make calls, but it can also be folded up to a size that fits comfortably in one hand and in your pants pocket.

I know it’s a phone — it works like a phone, it is littered with Android apps — and yet I can’t imagine making many phone calls from it, or going for a run with it, or, in its current form, using it as my only camera on vacation.

Shipping a flagship phone in 2020 with just a single camera also seems like a strange move — although if it’s a good camera, that might not be much of an issue.

#charging    #NFC    #USB    #C    #know

It’ll feature USB – C fast charging, but I hear that current test units do not have wireless charging or NFC capabilities.

It’ll also come equipped with a USB – C port fast charging, but based on current test units, it doesn’t seem like it comes with support for wireless charging or NFC.

We don’t know if Surface Duo is IPXX rated, we don’t know anything about its audio setup, or overall device dimensions.

There are still quite a few unknowns with regard to the hardware; wireless charging, NFC presence, IPXX ratings, audio capabilities, overall device dimensions and so on.

Not much is official in this area, but prototype versions of the Surface Duo have a fingerprint reader on the side of the device, as well as a USB – C port.

Microsoft Surface Duo Specifications Part 3

#resolution    #hinge    #display    #separated

Unfolded, they form an 8.3-inch display ( separated, of course, by the hinge ) that can either display information independently on each screen or go full screen across the two of them.

We already knew that the Surface Duo is set to pack two 5.6-inch displays connected by a hinge, with each screen touting a 1800 x 1350 resolution.

At its event last year, Microsoft had only revealed the device would have two 5.6-inch screens ( with 1800×1350 pixel resolution on each ) held together on a hinge — rather than a flexible screen, as is the case with the Galaxy Fold.

A few days after the unveiling of the Surface Duo, we had come to know that the device has two 5.6-inch screens, each with an odd 1800×1350 pixels resolution.

#Galaxy    #Fold    #Samsung    #price

Firstly, the exact price of the smartphone was not given, although the source says the handset will be priced below the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

The short video clip shows that Microsoft has found a way to make Surface Duo efficient without an additional secondary display like Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, Samsung Galaxy Fold, Motorola Razr, and Royole FlexPai.

The Surface Duo doesn’t rely on an actual folding screen, so we don’t anticipate the stratospheric pricing of $ 2,000 and beyond that we saw with the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei’s Mate X.

The Motorola Razr that is foldable prices $ 1,500, while Samsung’s second crack, the Galaxy Z Switch, at a phone, goes for $ 1,380.

Given that there’s durable glass protection, the device might not experience issues such as breaking display as in the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

The Surface Duo ( seen in this photo ) and the Surface Neo are the two Microsoft devices with a foldable screen.

But the two devices that have generated a lot of hype and interest are the new dual – screen, foldable devices : the Surface Duo and the Surface Neo.

But it was still a bit surprising to see Microsoft take the stage last October and announce two folding, dual – screen devices in the Surface Neo and Surface Duo.

The Surface Duo is a dual – screen device, but Microsoft is not keen on simply calling this as a ‘foldable phone ‘, but is positioning this as a new kind of Surface.

Microsoft is getting back into the smartphone business though it means that its upcoming Microsoft Surface Duo apparatus is a mobile phone.

#Neo    #run    #version

First, the Neo runs a full – blown version of Windows specifically designed for dual – screen devices known as Windows 10X.

The Surface Neo is also a dual – screen foldable device, but this one runs a more customised version of Windows 10 called Windows 10X.

That sets it apart from the larger Surface Neo, which will run Windows 10X – a forked version optimized for dual – screen activity.

Surface Neo was the bigger one that ran on Windows 10X ( new OS for dual – screen devices ) and Surface Duo which surprisingly run on Android instead of Windows.

It will run on an Intel heterogeneous chip, designed for smaller form factors, and it will run on a new version of the OS called Windows 10X, which is designed for dual – screen PCs.

#Snapdragon    #Qualcomm    #G    #processor    #chipset

The Surface Duo prototype featured a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, but we believe it will use the newer Snapdragon 865 in the final version.

According to Wired, the Surface Duo prototype is running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chipset, but the consumer version could be powered by a newer chipset.

When the phone was announced in 2019, it was said that it would be packing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chipset which was the flagship chipset at that time.

Since the Snapdragon 865 processor requires extra space for its X55 5 G modem, Surface Duo would have been distorted footprint – wise.

Surface Duo comes with mid – range specs and it’s going to include a Snapdragon 855 chipset and not Snapdragon 865, which is the latest flagship SoC from Qualcomm.

#launch    #public

Because of this, the specs that Microsoft employees are testing with Surface Duo today are the ones we can expect to see inside Surface Duo when it launches to the public later this year.

The Surface Duo is in take – home status at Microsoft internally, meaning employees from outside the Surface hardware division can request to test and use Surface Duo in the real world.

While we understand that the design of the Microsoft Surface Duo was planned way back, devices that launch with older processors have never been popular with the public.

For now, there is nothing concrete about Microsoft’s plans to launch the Surface Duo since the supply chain is disrupted owing to the covid-19 pandemic worldwide.

#GB    #storage    #RAM    #processor

Apart from the processor, the Surface Duo features 6 GB RAM in a time where flagships are featuring 8GB-16 GB RAM.

Elsewhere, the Duo will have 6 GB of RAM with between 64 GB and 256 GB of non – expandable storage.

Under the hood, the Surface Duo gets adequate power via Snapdragon 855 processor, 6 GB RAM paired with 64 GB and 256 GB internal storage.

Beyond the camera, the phone will pack a Snapdragon 855 processor, 6 GB of RAM, and storage options of either 64 GB or 256 GB.

Microsoft also plans to offer the device with 6 GB of RAM and you can either have 64 GB or 256 GB of unexpandable storage.

Windows Central reports that the Duo will feature a Snapdragon 855 processor, 6 GB of RAM and a choice of 64 GB or 256 GB of storage.

#holiday    #launch

When it previewed the Microsoft Surface Duo in 2019, Microsoft said to expect a launch in time for the holidays but not the holiday season that came and went.

At its October 2019 Surface event in New York City, Microsoft mentioned that the Surface Duo will be released in time for holiday 2020.

The Microsoft Surface Duo was first expected to launch in the Holiday season, but it’s now expected to ship out as early as June 2020.

Over a week ago, we told you Microsoft Surface Duo would still be on schedule while Surface Neo would be delayed.

When Microsoft announced the Surface Duo in October of last year, the company said the device would be coming holiday 2020, and its official page for the Surface Duo still makes this claim.

#Central    #specifications    #employees

But the folks at Windows Central report that they ‘ve obtained a list of the hardware specifications for the Surface Duo.

The latest leaks were published by Windows Central which finally sheds some light regarding the key specifications of the Surface Duo.

There is no fresh information on Surface Duo release date, but a new report on Windows Central has revealed fresh details on its specifications.

But now that the Surface Duo is reportedly in the hands of Microsoft employees for at – home testing, Windows Central has secured a full spec sheet for the upcoming phone.

Just ahead of the weekend Windows Central published new details and what it claimed to be the final specs of the upcoming Surface Duo.

#market    #smartphone    #phones

Though Microsoft has unsuccessfully attempted to enter the smartphone market for years, its Surface Duo may be a step in the right direction.

While even Apple is expected to jump on the 5 G bandwagon, Microsoft may end up trailing behind for its ambitious Surface Duo foldable smartphone.

With these many shortcuts, Microsoft could be poised to releasing the phone at a friendly budget that undercuts most other foldable phones in the market and gives them the opening they need.

While this may not be a wise decision from a consumer’s standpoint, Microsoft may have begun materialising the Surface Duo much before the Snapdragon 865 SoC came into the markets.

For what it is worth, Microsoft’s Surface Duo will arrive in markets with some dated innards, which might make it difficult for the company to take a stand against the rivals.

#battery    #day    #sources    #power

The story’s sources say that battery will be able to power the Surface Duo throughout the day, but that’s … ambitious.

Leaks also indicate that the Duo will contain 401-pixel AMOLED displays, and will also come with a 3460 mAh battery, and sources indicate that the battery will be able to run Surface Duo throughout the day.

I ‘m also told that Surface Duo will ship with a 3460mAh battery, which contacts have said is able to get Surface Duo through the day, but don’t expect an endurance champ.

Surface Duo will ship with a 3460mAh battery, which is not huge but it should be enough for a day on a single charge and normal usage.

Considering that the Duo packs two screens, we’re eager to see what kind of power – efficiency tools Microsoft has up its sleeve to prevent battery drain.

#mm    #thickness    #shut    #Pen

When opened the new Surface device will be 4.8 mm thin, while the thickness upon shutting down will be 9.6 mm.

We know that the device will be 4.8 mm when opened so when shut, the thickness of the Duo should be 9.6 mm.

Each screen is just 4.8 mm thick; the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, by comparison, is 8.8 mm thick, making it just 0.8 mm thinner than the Surface Duo in its folded mode.

We also know those displays support Surface Pen, and that the device itself is 4.8 mm thin, but that’s about it.

For a device that sports places to incorporate two batteries, Microsoft sure decided to skimp out on this category, irrespective of the fact that it measures 4.8 mm in thickness.

#charging    #NFC    #USB    #support    #C

It’ll also support fast charging and USB – C, but we don’t know whether the device will ship with wireless charging or NFC capabilities.

It’ll feature USB – C fast charging, but I hear that current test units do not have wireless charging or NFC capabilities.

It’ll also come equipped with a USB – C port fast charging, but based on current test units, it doesn’t seem like it comes with support for wireless charging or NFC.

The disappointing point to note is that the tablet will not provide support for NFC, wireless charging, and even 5 G connectivity.

The Surface Duo will also lack NFC support, which might hinder payment functionalities when using apps such as Google Pay in supported countries.

#Android    #update    #run

The Surface Duo will also launch with Android 10 and has a planned update to Android 11 soon after the launch.

The device will reportedly run on Android 10 initially, but the report says it’ll receive an update for Android 11 fairly quickly.

But there’s at least some good news on the Android front : an update to Android 11 is expected relatively quickly.

Google’s Android 10 with Play Store comes out of the box, but Microsoft is apparently working on major software update and Android 11 support.

The device appears to uses the same components as other modern smartphones, runs Android ( albeit, a custom version of Android 10 ) and makes phone calls.

According to the leaks, the device will run Android 10 initially, but it will receive an update to Android 11 quickly, and the phone will also come with a USB – C port for fast charging.

#specs    #know    #expecting    #grain

And although we know the on – paper specs for the camera, we still don’t really know how well it performs in the real world.

Take it with a grain of salt for now, but if these specs are true, we have to wonder how the phone is expected to compete with today’s more modern handsets.

This could disappoint some fans who have been expecting that the device will come with the latest and the greatest from Qualcomm.

The actual device won’t be out until later this year, but the leaked images and specs are very likely to be the real deal.

It was the only device that had not been rumored or discussed by the general tech press, so specs and details about it are only starting to be released.

#apps    #Android    #drag

Microsoft put a set of developer tools out to show app manufacturers the way the Microsoft Surface Duo will display their applications.

This allows you to run the full gamut of Windows apps, including Win32, Microsoft Store, Progressive Web Apps, and Universal Windows Apps.

All pre – loaded Microsoft apps are expected to support spanning across both screens and content drag – and – drop.

Understandably, not all Android apps will make use of all the dual – screen niceties ( like drag & drop ) available.

All of Microsoft’s first – party apps that are preinstalled on Surface Duo will support spanning across both displays and have drag and drop capabilities between two different apps where applicable.

After bringing its Office products and cloud services to Android and iOS devices, Microsoft has unveiled an Android – powered dual – screen smartphone called Surface Duo.

#notifications    #feature    #manage    #peek

There is a new video leaked about the Surface Duo which reveals that it will have a notification peek feature, where users can manage it without fully opening the device.

For instance, you’ll be able to peek at your calls and notifications when pulling open the top screen on the device.

Peek feature is the name of the method which allows user to partially lift one side of the and manage notifications which are condensed in bottom side and then scroll through them like a regular Android feature.

In it, you can more clearly see how the device will work with notifications, which appear on the right side of the display so you can deal with them without having to completely open the device.

#Panos    #officer    #product    #Panay

Earlier this month Microsoft’s Chief Product Officer of Windows and Devices, Panos Panay, penned a blog post about launching Windows 10X on single – screen devices.

According to chief product officer Panos Panay, the developers opted for Google’s mobile device operating system to appeal to the general market.

Panos Panay, the chief product officer of Microsoft made that clear in the presentation, that the Surface Duo is a ‘Surface ‘.

#email    #games

When you use the Surface Duo in landscape mode, one screen of the device runs applications, while the other can be used as a keyboard or a game controller.

Or one could have one side of the screen occupied by one part of the app such as the Inbox on an email app, while the other screen will display the email thread.

Panay explained that while using Outlook / email, you can have one screen displaying your inbox or a received message and the other screen could be used to compose a message, which would make sending emails more efficient.

When the Surface Duo is folded out, it gets touch commands for Project xCloud on the lower part of the screen to create a Nintendo 3DS like experience.

#camera    #displays    #rear    #photos    #pixel

The front camera will be used for both front and rear – facing photos, which means you’ll need to turn around the display for rear – facing photos.

The device has a Single Rear Camera Setup featuring an 11MP camera with an aperture of f/2.0 with a 1.12um pixel size.

The phone’s displays are AMOLED screens with a pixel density of 401, and there will be a lone 11MP camera sensor on top of the right display that doubles as both a front and rear camera.

It will feature a single 11MP camera sensor above the right display that will be used for both front and rear – facing photos and videos.

This hasn’t been confirmed, but if true, it would give the displays a pixel density of around 401 pixels per inch.

#announced    #smartphone    #sales

This device was announced a long back, as it is a unique device it has been under testing and development for a long time.

This release window was announced when Microsoft officially unveiled the Duo at a Surface event in October 2019, making the rare move of revealing a new smartphone over a year before sale to the general public.

It was a rather exciting announcement given that we have been hearing rumors about a Surface branded smartphone for the longest time ever.

This is what Microsoft demonstrated on stage during the launch presentation, though of course the use cases could evolve more once the device is finalised for actual sales.

#camera    #quality    #iPhone    #image    #Pixel

Apparently, the device’s camera quality won’t be iPhone or Pixel level, but the company is confident that the Surface Duo’s camera would be able to satisfy most users.

Unless the camera or the software experience is Pixel – quality, it might have a hard time getting into the market.

Windows Central says that the image capture quality is sufficient for most people, but it isn’t on the same level as an iPhone or a Pixel, which was expected.

Instagram has been known to compress image quality, though, so the image might not truly represent what you’ll get when the Duo releases.

The new iPhone SE and Google’s Pixel 3a show that you can take some pretty great pictures with just a single – lens smartphone camera.

#Mobile

Over the last couple of decades, Microsoft has launched Windows CE, Windows Mobile, and Windows Phone to power smartphones, but all of them failed.

Another reason for Android is that Microsoft has not really tasted success in the mobile segment, with Windows Mobile never really taking off.

The Surface Duo, in particular, marked a reentry into the smartphone market a couple of years after the company finally acknowledged that Windows 10 Mobile was no longer in active development.

However, one noticeable absence is Microsoft, who discontinued the Lumia series and Windows Mobile and stepped back from the smartphone market – until now.

And Microsoft which got stung by app manufacturers spurning mobile Windows the last time it attempted to make a go of it with mobiles understands apps are the key to people using your hardware.

Microsoft Surface Duo Review Part 4

#Android    #Google

The Surface Duo is being pitched as a ‘Surface’ device, but one that can also make phone calls and runs Android.

The company unveiled the Surface duo, which is dual – screen, foldable phone that will run on Google’s Android Operating System ( OS ).

The Microsoft Surface Duo is a dual – screen Android smartphon that folds up like a book, supports a Surface Pen, and will come pre – loaded with Microsoft apps.

Microsoft said on stage that the Duo would be compatible with all Android apps, and it’s currently working closely with Google to make Android apps that are suited to the dual screen setup.

The Duo uses Google’s Android 10 operating system, with a custom skin and dock or lock screen provided by the Microsoft Launcher app.

#phones    #state    #use

For those that intend to use the Surface Duo as a daily driver, the lack of contactless payments could be a big hurdle.

The Surface Duo is a dual – screen device, but Microsoft is not keen on simply calling this as a ‘foldable phone ‘, but is positioning this as a new kind of Surface.

The Microsoft Surface Duo is an attractive device and could be the answer to some of the questions that have been asked about the current state of the foldable smartphone market.

Just like a laptop or many flip phones of the past, the Duo has a clear physical distinction between in – use and not — and moving from one state to the other requires a deliberate choice and more physical action than the press of a button.

#Galaxy    #Fold    #Samsung

Unlike other folding smartphones, Microsoft’s actually comprises two displays, which means that it shouldn’t suffer from any of the strange screen issues that have been plaguing devices such as Samsung’s Galaxy Fold and Motorola’s modern Razr.

An Android – powered Surface Phone would look something like a OnePlus or Samsung Galaxy S10, albeit with Microsoft’s Surface stylings.

With the exception of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and its predecessors, Android has had a distinct lack of stylus / pen – based devices.

There are, however, thick bezels around the top of the device, so don’t expect this to be like the bezel – less Samsung Galaxy phones.

This Surface is a folding phone, not one that’s in the same line as Samsung’s Fold or Hauwei’s Mate X, but in a distinct Microsofttean way.

#notifications    #peek    #close

For instance, you’ll be able to peek at your calls and notifications when pulling open the top screen on the device.

The first clip highlights the peek feature for notifications : The device is only slightly opened, revealing a host of information on the right – hand side of the internal dual – screen.

When you’re all done with it, close the device and you get two screens protected on the inside of the device and nothing but the metal exterior on the outside.

Unlike Galaxy Fold, Surface Duo doesn’t have a secondary outside display and Peek feature might help you stay up – to – date with notifications.

The whole device is opened up to show both displays and the green accept call button is selected; it has been speculated that simply closing the Surface Duo will reject the incoming call.

#release    #holiday    #launch    #announced

The mobile was originally announced with a Holiday 2020 release date, but an early launch is possible because both the hardware and software are reportedly finished.

At its October 2019 Surface event in New York City, Microsoft mentioned that the Surface Duo will be released in time for holiday 2020.

The Surface Duo, which was announced a full year before it was planned to release to market, was recently spotted in the wild.

The phone was originally scheduled for release during the 2020 holiday season, but rumors now show it could be released as early as summer 2020.

When Microsoft announced the Surface Duo in October of last year, the company said the device would be coming holiday 2020, and its official page for the Surface Duo still makes this claim.

#durability    #design    #displays

Microsoft likely thought that a Duo with a single foldable screen would be too costly to produce, so it stuck with the older dual – screen design.

In addition to durability, Microsoft claims that its distinct two – screen design is also helpful for creating two discrete spaces for different activities, which could be a boon for inveterate multitaskers.

While it’s not nearly as flashy as an actual folding screen, it will almost certainly come with a few huge advantages — the first of which is durability.

The foldable, dual – screen Surface Duo will hit the market as foldables generate a lot of interest, but, due to high costs and disastrous durability for some early efforts, we have yet to see one of these devices succeed in the mainstream.

#Pro    #tablet

This USB docking station is compatible with the Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 4, fifth generation, Surface Pro 6 tablets, Surface Book and Surface Book 2.

Microsoft announced its new series of Surface devices on Wednesday, with a new Surface Laptop 3, the Surface Pro 7 and Surface Pro X.

Every new product Microsoft announced at its October event, including the Surface Pro X, Surface Neo, Surface Pro laptop and Surface Earbuds.

The Microsoft Surface is a tablet computer announced by Microsoft on June 18, 2012, and its Pro version was released February 9, 2013.

Microsoft Stores can assist with a variety of services including repairs for the Surface Laptop 3, Surface Pro X and Surface Pro 7 in selected locations.

#price    #folding    #end    #starting    #come

Surface devices are usually high – end, but when it comes to foldable smartphones, high – end can mean anywhere from $ 1,000 to $ 2,700.

Reasonable pricing : We said we would expect the Surface Duo to start somewhere between $ 1,200 and $ 1,500, but we hope the price is closer to the low end of that range.

You would expect the Surface Duo to come in at a similar price, but smartphones with folding or dual – screens are now within the $ 1,000 plus range.

With all of that said, a starting price of anywhere between $ 1,200 and $ 1,500 fits what we know so far.

The Surface Duo doesn’t rely on an actual folding screen, so we don’t anticipate the stratospheric pricing of $ 2,000 and beyond that we saw with the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei’s Mate X.

#Windows    #version    #designed    #run

First, the Neo runs a full – blown version of Windows specifically designed for dual – screen devices known as Windows 10X.

The Surface Neo is also a dual – screen foldable device, but this one runs a more customised version of Windows 10 called Windows 10X.

It will run on an Intel heterogeneous chip, designed for smaller form factors, and it will run on a new version of the OS called Windows 10X, which is designed for dual – screen PCs.

That sets it apart from the larger Surface Neo, which will run Windows 10X – a forked version optimized for dual – screen activity.

Regarding Windows 10X, Microsoft says this is a version of Windows 10 designed to work on dual – screen PC and that it will be faster, along with support for multi – tasking.

#Snapdragon    #Qualcomm    #processor    #chipset

Judging from a report from Windows Central’s Zac Bowden, it is indicated that the Surface Duo might come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor inside.

The Surface Duo has two screens, like its larger sibling, but it’s powered by a Qualcomm processor, the Snapdragon 855, and it’s running on Android.

That being said, there’s no reason that Microsoft won’t update the processor to Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 865 chipset in the time leading up to its release.

Based on reviews of other phones with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, the Surface Duo will still be a good bet for multitasking, and more.

Windows Central notes the decision to go with an older chipset instead of the latest Snapdragon 865 has to do with a Qualcomm requirement.

#market    #offer    #gain

Let’s see why Microsoft launched the Duo, and why this so – called Surface Phone could struggle to gain ground in the crowded smartphone market.

That shrinking market makes it tough for any newcomers, even ones as large as Microsoft, to gain ground against market leaders like Samsung, Huawei, and Apple.

Since then, company executives have repeatedly said that Microsoft would not re – enter the market unless it had something different to offer.

Though Microsoft has unsuccessfully attempted to enter the smartphone market for years, its Surface Duo may be a step in the right direction.

Series – Teachers and students can enjoy 5 % off ( device only ) for Microsoft Authorized Store Education Offer, this offer can not be used in conjunction with any other promotions.

#Android    #phone    #services    #install

Once Microsoft committed to building its own version of Android as well as a phone, 75 % of the argument for not building an Android phone was blown away.

Since the EU’s case, it is now possible for a phone maker to use Android as well as Play app store and still pre – install all of its own services on the homescreen.

It’ll bring the best of Microsoft’s services on Android to Android phone users, and it’ll do it with a hardware flourish that focuses on productivity.

Instead of trying to expand its own OS again, it’s wisely sticking with Android but pre – installing its own mobile apps.

The European Unions ( EU ) anti – trust ruling against Google last year, over the way it puts search and web – browser apps onto Android devices, also means Microsoft would be freer to merge its own apps with Android.

#Store    #Business    #Windows

This allows you to run the full gamut of Windows apps, including Win32, Microsoft Store, Progressive Web Apps, and Universal Windows Apps.

The Store for Business is where you can find, acquire, and manage apps for the Windows 10 devices in your organization, including Surface Hub.

The Surface app is a lightweight Microsoft Store app that provides control of many Surface – specific settings and options, including : Enable or disable the Windows button on the Surface device.

If you acquired the app from the Microsoft Store for Business, you will also need to add the app license to your provisioning package.

Work with your customer to register as a LOB publisher, and then submit your app for the organization’s Microsoft Store for Business.

#camera    #lens    #focus    #smartphone    #sensor

The Pro variant is said to come with OIS on the primary camera alongside a 12MP lens and a 13MP sensor.

On the optics front, the OPPO Reno4 is tipped to sport a 48MP primary sensor + an 8MP camera + a 2MP lens.

The new iPhone SE and Google’s Pixel 3a show that you can take some pretty great pictures with just a single – lens smartphone camera.

There’s no rear camera — users fold the device backward and use the front – facing camera for forward – facing shots.

The lens automatically focuses on the main subject on the screen, but you can change the focus to a different area before taking a picture or while recording a video.

#email    #message

Or one could have one side of the screen occupied by one part of the app such as the Inbox on an email app, while the other screen will display the email thread.

Panay explained that while using Outlook / email, you can have one screen displaying your inbox or a received message and the other screen could be used to compose a message, which would make sending emails more efficient.

You’ll be able to stack apps side by side, drag apps from one screen to the next, and span them across the screen and the hinge.

Another example : While using Microsoft Teams on one screen, information or documents can be accessed from the other screen, allowing for less lag time when retrieving and relaying such information.

#issue    #work    #store    #purchased    #connection

I ca nt access the store on my new surface, it keeps saying we weren’t able to connect to the store .

I recently purchased a Surface 8 Pro with type cover, and from what I understand from googling around and trying to resolve the issue myself, this is a fairly common issue.

Everything else is working great since I have done other tweaks and what not, but that store is just so slow.

It tries to download, then fails with the message that the purchase can’t be completed because the connection is too slow.

#ratio    #aspect    #image

You can find aspect ratio calculators online and in some photo editing tools to help you determine the aspect ratios of your images.

An aspect ratio , by definition, is the ratio of the width to the height of an image, video or screen.

See the complete profile on LinkedIn and discover Ben’s connections and Select the Aspect Ratio to change the aspect ratio of the video itself 16:9.

However, that excitement quickly dissipated when they discovered Disney had chosen to ditch the original 4:3 aspect ratio for an update 16:9 ratio.

If your campaign is missing any of the following aspect ratios, this may result in fewer placements and less traffic, so we highly recommend submitting images in all ratios.
